Almeida closes out Catalunya with overall podium

Soler 3rd on stage as UAE scoops team classification

Joao Almeida closed-out a solid week of racing on Catalan roads, keeping his composure to cement his third place podium at Volta Catalunya.

Marc Soler animated the stage by attacking the peloton in pursuit of stage winner Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quickstep) and overall winner Primo Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) on the circuit finish lap of Motjuic in Barcelona.

UAE Team Emirates were top of the team classification as the team looks ahead to the next races.

Almeida: “I’m happy with the performance this week. I think the podium is a good result and it shows the form is good ahead of the races to come. Now time for some rest and start the preparation for the Giro D’Italia.”

After some excellent team collaboration at the GP Industria & Artigianato the team fell short in the pursuit of victory with Diego Ulissi and Felix Grossschartner taking 5th and 6th place respectively.
