Conti narrowly misses win in GP Lugano

Another 2nd place for Italian

Valerio Conti took his second runner-up spot in as many races in Switzerland at the GP Lugano.

 

The decisive move was made with two laps left to ride as Conti broke clear in a strong group containing Gianni Moscon (Ineos-Grenadiers), Ben Hermans (Israel Start Up Nation) and Simon Pellaud (Androni).

 

Moscon broke clear on te final climb with 8km to go with Conti following Hermans and coming around the Belgian in the final sprint at the lake of Lugano.

 

Diego Ulissi covered the moves in the group behind to come home with a solid 5th place.

 

Conti: “Today was a really hard day. It was tougher than it looked on paper. My average power was very high and it took a big effort to finish well. Moscon was the strongest today and he got the gap on the last climb and stayed away. I was hungry for a win but I just missed a little bit today.”
