Costa finishes strong at Tour de Suisse

Portuguese champion 6th on final stage, 7th in GC

Rui Costa showed his evergreen form on Swiss roads with the three time Tour de Suisse champion finishing 6th on the last stage and 7th overall.

Gino Mader (Bahrain-Victorious) was first home on the 8th leg of the race starting and finishing in Andermatt (159.5km) , the Swiss rider going clear on the final climb with Michael Woods (Israel Start-Up Nation).

Meanwhile Costa fought out the sprint behind in a group of 7 riders which included overall race winner Richard Carapaz (Ineos-Grenadiers).

Rui Costa: “On balance it’s been a good week here in Switzerland starting with the podium in GP Kantons Aargau. I had a bit of disappointment with a crash and the second place on stage 6 but overall it’s been positive and the team worked well. It’s a while since I’ve had such a good result on GC so I want to take this form into the next races.”
