Covi edges closer to first win with podium in Coppa Bernocchi

2nd place for Italian behind Evenepoel

Alessandro Covi put in another fine display of late-season form, taking 2nd place under treacherous conditions at the Coppa Bernocchi today in Legnano, Italy.

The 22 year-old went clear in an elite six rider group which developed after 50km of racing. This group would build a gap of over 5 minutes and collaborated well under the pouring rain to stay clear, with Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-Quickstep) proving the strongest.

The Belgian would win solo, with Covi coming home 1’49’’ behind, outsprinting Fausto Masnada (Deceunick-Quickstep).

Alessandro Covi: “I’m happy with this results even though I was really hoping to take my first victory. But Evenepoel was the strongest today so I have to be pleased with how I did. The important thing was to try today : the weather was pretty vicious with the torrential rain so I attacked early and I think I made the best of the situation.”

Back in the peloton Sebastian Molano won the bunch sprint to take 7th place.

The racing continues in Italy tomorrow with the Tre Valli Varesine (1.Pro).
