De La Cruz 9th in Vuelta time trial

Spaniard climbs to 10th position in the overall standings

Thanks to a solid time trial performance, David De La Cruz climbed to a top 10 place in the general classification of the Vuelta a Espana.

 

The Spanish rider of UAE Team Emirates came home 9th fastest during the 13th stage on the 33.7 km time trial from Muros to Mirador de Ézaro with the finish at the top of a steep slope: 1.8 km at 14.2% average gradient.
De La Cruz’s time (47’38 “, hourly average of 42.449 km/h) was 59” higher than that of the winner Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma): the rider from the Emirati team gained three positions in the overall , settling in 10th place at 9’23 “from the new red jersey Roglic.
Sergio Henao occupies the 15th position at 14’20 “.

 

De La Cruz: “Today was very tough because of the wind. I tried to find a rhythm without going too deep before the final climb, then after the bike change it was full gas to the line. My goal now will be to keep my top-10 on GC and try and move up even higher.”

 

The 14th stage, 204.7 km from Lugo to Ourense, will be disputed on a course marked by three 3rd category GPMs placed in the second half of the course.
