Double Top-10 at Circuito de Getxo

Covi 7th, Trentin 9th in Basque classic

Alessandro Covi topped-off a solid weekend of racing with a fine 7th place at the Circuito de Getxo (1.1) in Spain today.

The 22-year old Italian showed fine form after 5th place yesterday in Clasica San Sebastian, though would suffer with the heat and fatigue from yesterday’s efforts.

Covi along with Matteo Trentin infiltrated an elite front group on the punchy circuit around the port city of Bilbao in Northern Spain. As the group split in the final 20km, Giacomo Nizzolo (Qhubeka-NextHash) clung on to win the uphill sprint to the line ahead of Giovanni Aleoti (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious).

Covi trailed behind at 54’’to take 7th with Trentin further back at 1’04’’ to take 9th.

Covi: “The race was very hard from start to finish. It was tough to control the race, but the team did good work. Myself and Trentin managed to fight in the front group but just missed the right escape in the closing stages.

I had a bit of fatigue from yesterday and the heat also played a factor, but I gave it my all so I can be happy.”

The team will now turn it’s focus to the Vuelta Burgos which runs from 3-7 August.
