Volta a Catalunya, final stage: bad luck for Martin

UAE Team Emirates rider crashed at 6 km to the end of the race: no injuries for him

Luck was not the main characteristic of UAE Team Emirates’ performances at the Volta a Catalunya.

In the final stage too (Barcelona-Barcelona, 154,8 km), the Emirati team was luckless: just before the begin of the last lap of the Montjuic circuit in Barcelona, Daniel Martin was involved in a crash while he was in the top riders group.
He completed the stage in 100th place at 7’34” to the winner Simone Yates and in the final general classification he’s 37th (+9’13” to the Valverde).

Today I would have liked to be aggressive, I was waiting for the final lap for a strong attack, but we crashed: it seems we had a lot of bad luck here so farMartin (photo archive Bettini) explained – It seems I’m not so badly hurt, Met helmet did a very good job.
Obviously, it didn’t really go to plan here in the Volta a Catalunya, also because I missed four days of trainings after Paris-Nice, but I appreciated that we’re making progress in the relationship with my new team.
We’ll concentrate now on the Ardennes
