Hirschi 3rd and holds white jersey in Romandie

Triple top-10 for Emirati squad as Hirschi moves up to 6th on GC

Marc Hirschi continued his comeback to top-form with an impressive 3rd place sprint finish on Stage 2 of the Tour de Romandie.

In a similar scenario to Stage 1, the reduced group fought it out for the win with Italian sprinter Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain-Victorious) proving the fastest with UAE Team Emirates dominating the top-10 : Marc Hirschi (3rd) , Diego Ulissi (5th) and Rui Costa (9th).

In the General Classification Marc Hirschi moves up to 6th place on GC, just 11’’ off the race lead of Rohan Dennis (Ineos-Grenadiers). The Swiss rider also retains the white jersey as leader of the best young rider classification on stage 3.

Stage 3 takes the riders on a hilly circuit course with start and finish in Estavayer (168.7km).

Hirschi : “The pace was hard today since the first climb of the day. It was up and down with rain which made it tough. On the final climb it was quite windy which made it tricky for any attacks to stick. Coming into the line we knew that a lot of the best sprinters were dropped but there was still a couple of really fast guys there, so 3rd was my best outcome and I’m pleased I could keep the white jersey and move up the GC.”
