Aru ends the Tour of Poland on a high note, 10th overall

The Sardianian and Conti on the attack in the last stage

With an optimum combination of class and grit, Fabio Aru was able to target and achieve a top 10 overall in the Tour of Poland.

On the final climbs of the last stage (Bukowina Tatrzanska-Bukowina Tatrzanska, 136 km & 6 Gpm) the team leader was the first to try to stretch out the group of the general classification riders,  which was marked by the race leader Michal Kwiatkowski. He was then able to resist the high speeds that were imposed heading towards the finish line and take 10th place for the stage with the other top riders at 16 seconds behind the stage winner Simon Yates.

With the good performance, Fabio Aru was able to close the race and 10th overall at 44 seconds behind the winner Michal Kwiatkowski.

It was a positive day for UAE Team Emirates given that the main escape of the day with 18 riders consisted of Rui Costa and Conti, with the Italian climber very courageous and counter attacking in the final phases of the race before being caught by the main group of classification men at 10 kilometres to race to the finish line.

I’m satisfied with my feelings that I had in the race,” explained Aru. “The Tour de Wallonie and the Tour of Poland have helped me a lot in this second part of the season as I’m working towards the Vuelta a España. It was important to be ahead in the race and I always was there where I expected myself to be. I’m satisfied. There are still two weeks left until the start of the Vuelta and I will work continuously with maximum concentration.
