Consonni places 7th in Tour of Poland stage 1

The first stage of the Tour of Poland, Krakow to Krakow at 134 km, ended in a bunch sprint won by German Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe). Alvaro Jos Hodeg (Quick Step – Floors) and Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton Scott) were second and third.

UAE Team Emirates Simone Consonni placed seventh. “ The group was strung out but in the final Bystrom kept me well up front,” said Consonni. “On the wide roads, the teams with more men could control it well. Unfortunately in the last metres, I had to brake a few times and I pulled off seventh.”

Four men escaped only nine kilometres into the race: De Marchi, Paluta and Podlaski, who were caught at 15km to race, and Rossetto, caught at 7km.

The second stage travels 156km from Tarnowskie Góry to Katowice, and should suit sprinters again.
