Consonni Second at Coppa Bernocchi

Twenty-four hours after the success of Aleksandr Riabushenko at the Coppa Agostoni, UAE Team Emirates went close to doing a double with Simone Consonni claiming second place in the Coppa Bernocchi.

The race ended in a mass sprint, in which Consonni tried in the final meters to reel in the German Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain-Merida), but just fell short. Third place went to Himerius Cima (Nippo-Fantini).

Consonni: “In the final kilometers I spoke with Ferrari and we agreed to set up the sprint coming from behind.
Unfortunately in the last corner we lost some positions, then Ferrari helped me back and left me with 300 meters to go when the crash happened. I found myself in front too soon, and in that moment of hesitation , Bauhaus came around me. I’m a little frustrated as the win has escaped me still this year.”
