Critérium du Dauphiné: Martin 8th in the final standings

The UAE Team Emirates rider climbs two positions on final day

Daniel Martin finished-off the Critérium du Dauphiné 2019 in 8th place on GC, 1’21 down on winner Jakob Fuglsang (Astana). This result is the fifth consecutive top-10 at the Dauphiné for the Irishman who continues to build towards next months Tour Fe France.

 

Martin started the mountainous 113.5 km stretch from Cluses to Champéry in tenth position on GC and stayed with the other main contenders to the line, arriving at the finish in an eleven man group, 1’59” down on stage winner Dylan Van Baarle (Team Ineos).

 

UAE Team Emirates rider jumped two positions and overtook Steven Kruijswijk (Jumbo-Visma) and Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) who withdrew from the race.

 

Martin‘s reaction: “It was a good return to the races after a long training period. 8th place is a positive result, although I would have preferred to have been a bit more aggressive in the two final stages, but chances to attack were few and far between.
I’m coming out of the Dauphiné with  good condition, and it’s still getting better. Now I will recover a bit and then build up again the Tour de France“.
