De La Cruz 5th after successful week at Vuelta Burgos

Top-5 and 2 stage wins for Emirati squad

UAE Team Emirates closed out the Vuelta Burgos with their heads held high after a week that brought two stage wins through Sebastian Molano and a solid 5th place on GC from David De La Cruz.

The final stage began from Comunero de Revenga before finishing on the brutal slopes of Lagunas de Neila (146km).

Stage honours went to Hugh Carthy (EF-Nippo) with Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious) securing the overall victory.

Sebastian Molano topped off the week by taking the green jersey as leader of the points classification.

De La Cruz finished just shy of the podium in 5th spot, 52’’ down on Landa as the Spaniard builds up towards the upcoming Vuelta España which departs from Burgos on the 14th August.

De La Cruz: “It was a hard race after an intense period of racing which started in Clasica San Sebastian. I’m disappointed to have missed out on the podium spot by just 9 seconds but I gave it my absolute all on that last hard climb.
The balance of the week is good: Molano had some great wins and the whole team were excellent throughout. This week was a good way to get the race rhythm before the Vuelta España next week which will be the big goal of the season.”
