Double top-10 at Giro d’Italia, Kristoff 5th in Mallorca

Fernando Gaviria and Sebastian Molano were both to the fore in the decisive finish of Stage 7 of the Giro d’Italia from Notaresco to Termoli (181km).

With a gradual rise to the line in Termoli, Gaviria kicked out early in the closing sprint only to be overhauled by stage winner Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal) to place 6th while Molano was further back in 10th spot.

Gaviria : “The guys did a good job to get me in position today and stay out of trouble. I was up with the best riders again in the sprint and the condition is there so we’ll keep trying to go for that stage win.”

Davide Formolo inches further forward in the battle for GC, breaking into the top-10, just 55’’ down on overall leader Attila Valter (Groupama-FDJ).

Tomorrow Stage 8 takes the riders from Foggia to Guardia Sanframondi (170km) with a hilly parlours which end on a Cat.4 kick-up to the line.

Kristoff 5th in Mallorca as breakaway succeeds

Second in the bunch sprint for the Norwegian

After the success of Ryan Gibbons yesterday lifting the Trofeo Calvia, Alexander Kristoff showed a promising return to form with a 5th place in the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana (1.1) on day two of the Challenge Mallorca.

A three man breakaway escaped on the final climb inside 15km to go, which included race winner Jesus Herrada (Cofidis).

The trio narrowly held off the chasing pack by 20’’ with Kristoff second fastest from the bunch on the technical arrival. Yesterday’s winner Gibbons’’ arrived closely behind in 11th place overall.

Tomorrow will be the third race of the Mallorca Challenge: the Trofeo Andratx – Mirador des Colomer (1.1).
