Spanish stage race key early calendar tester

With Fernando Gaviria having claimed the first wins of 2020 for UAE Team Emirates in Vuelta San Juan, attention will soon turn to Europe where the team will begin their season at the Vuelta Valenciana (2.1) in Spain.

The race will run from 5-9 February starting in Castellón before finishing on the final day in the centre of Valencia.

With such a balanced team the aim will be to seek opportunities both in the hills with the group of strong climbers as well as in the sprints with Alexander Kristoff.

Sports Director Neil Stephens (Aus) is based in Spain and knows the Valencia region well, he will lead the following riders:

-Tadej Pogačar (Slo)
-Alexander Kristoff (Nor)
-Joe Dombrowski (USA)
-David de la Cruz (Spa)
-Eduard Ravasi (Ita)
-Jan Polanc (Slo)

Neil Stephens: “All of the boys have trained well and are in great shape. This will be the first race for all of them, so we may be lacking a bit on race kilometres. We are looking forward to some hard racing to get in to top shape for the important races that are soon on our calendar.“

Tadej Pogačar : “I’m looking forward to starting the season in Valenciana. I’m coming into the race after 3 weeks training at altitude and it went really well. Some of the stages here should suit my characteristics and the goal will be to get the race feeling back in the legs. This race will serve as good preparation for the first big goal of the year which is the UAE Tour.”
