UAE Team Emirates bounce back at Criterium du Dauphiné

Bystrom 5th, McNulty 12th on stage 2 in France

After a frustrating day on Stage 1 which saw GC man Brandon McNulty lost time due to a mechanical, UAE Team Emirates bounced back in the selective finish to stage 2 at the Criterium du Dauphiné which saw Sven Erik Bystrom sprint to 5th place, with McNulty just behind in 12th.

The victory went to Austrian Lukas Postlberger (Bora Hansgrohe) who hung on from the early breakaway with the reduced peloton coming in 11’’ down on the hilly stage from Brioude to Saugues (172.8km).

Allan Peiper (Sports Director) :
After yesterday the plan was to recuperate some energy while also protecting McNulty. The final was hard and Brandon stayed with the front group as well as Bystrøm who put in a good sprint to finish 5th. We’re looking ahead to tomorrow and also for the time-trial where I think we can give it a real go, especially with McNulty and Bjerg.”

The Emirati team will now set their sights to tomorrow’s Stage 3 from Langeac to Saint-Haon-Le-Vieux (172.2km) which finishes with an uphill kick to the line.
