Molano claims second triumph in Burgos sprint

Colombian seals victory, Trentin 4th

Sebastian Molano claimed his second victory of the week on Stage 4 of the Vuelta Burgos in a thrilling sprint finish on a day which took the riders from Roa to Aranda de Duero (149km).

The wind played a factor as UAE Team Emirates worked to control the breakaway of five riders who were swept up with just under 7km to go.

Molano, along with the support of teammate Matteo Trentin, navigated the final kilometre together, with Trentin jumping early forcing a reaction from the other sprinters before Molano came roaring along in the last dash to the line to win by a fraction.

The win marks the 15th career win for Molano and the 23rd victory of the season for UAE Team Emirates.

The podium was rounded out by Jon Aberasturi (Caja-Rural) and Vincenzo Albanese (Eolo-Kometa) , with Matteo Trentin coming in behind for 4th.

Romain Bardet (DSM) continues as race leader with David De La Cruz moving up to 3rd place, 1’ off the lead heading into the final day.

Molano: “Myself and Matteo were both up front for the final so we knew we would have cards to play. Aberasturi got a good jump and I instinctively reacted and just came through for the win.

The team worked all day on the front and showed a lot of faith in me to deliver the sprint. There was a lot of stress in the early stages with the wind but we controlled it well and it all came back together. We have David up on the GC now too so our focus will be for him tomorrow.

Stage 5 will take the riders from Comunero de Revenga to Lagunas de Neila (146km) where a summit finish will decide the final standings.
