Philipsen 4th in Schwalbe Classic

Belgian fourth in Adelaide as season gets underway

Jasper Philipsen got his season off to a promising start with a 4th place in the bunch sprint at the Schwalbe Classic in Australia.

The race was marked by intermittent rain which left the roads wet for parts of the course, though it would not impact the final result.

In a strong sprinting field, Philipsen positioned himself well in the closing kilometres, with Ewan proving the fastest as he distanced the other sprinters.

The riders will now look towards the first World Tour appointment of the year, the Santos Tour Down Under which gets underway on Tuesday 21st.

Philipsen: “It was good to get the race feeling back and I felt happy with my condition. In the end we expected a bunch sprint. My position was really good but in the final straight they came from behind with a lot of speed. Ewan was super fast and I got a bit boxed in between Viviani and Consonni and couldn’t really launch my sprint but today was the criterium to warm-up and get a feel for the roads and now we look forward to the Tour Down Under next week”.
