Sutherland, long distance attack

Australian rider in a breakaway with 5 riders, they got caught at 3 km to go

First breakaway in the season for Rory Sutherland (photo Bettini, with Laengen), who went clear from the peloton after 4 km in the 4th stage of the Volta ao Algarve, Almodôvar-Tavira of 199,2 km.
The Australian rider joined an attack of 5 cyclists (King, Amezqueta, Silva, Grigorev e Rodrigues) who led the race with a maximum advantage of 4′.

 

In the final 10 km, the leading group was joined by Gilbert, Sutterlin and Teuns, but they could not avoid that the bunch bridged the gap at 3 km to the arrival.
Groenewegen won the massive sprint, Swift was 18th.

 

Conti is 14th in the general classification, at 1’58” to Thomas; 15th place for Martin, at 2’03”.
