Ganna powers to 5th in ITT. Durasek remains top 10 GC

The fourth stage of the Amgen Tour of California was a 34.7 kilometers individual time trial around Morgan Hill, California. The mostly flat course suited a power rider and current Track World Champion in the Individual Pursuit, Filippo Ganna, powered to 5th place on the stage. He finished the course in a blistering time of 41:36.

Ganna was one of the first riders on the course and sat in the hot seat for a little while before his time was beaten. He ended the day 49 seconds behind stage winner Tejay Van Garderen (BMC).

“It was a good day and I felt great through the effort,” Ganna said. “This is my second long time trial this year, so it went well. I lost a bit of time to Tejay Van Garderen in the end, but I’m happy with how it went.”

Kristijan Durasek rode well to retain his top 10 place in the general classification. He is 9th overall with three stages remaining in the race.

Tomorrow, May 17th, is a day for European champion Alexander Kristoff. The stage from Stockton to Elk Grove covers 176 kilometers and only has one KOM in the race, which is at kilometer 68. A sprint finish in Elk Grove is expected.
