Trentin scoops 4th in Gran Piemonte
Italian just off podium in sprint
Matteo Trentin took 4th place in a hectic sprint finish in the finale of Gran Piemonte in Italy today.
The sprint was opened up by Maximiliano Richeze, with the flying Argentine forcing a response from British rider Matthew Walls (Bora-Hansgrohe) , who was the fastest man on the day.
Trentin was just off the podium, though took some positive aspects from the day.
Trentin: “The parcours was quite straightforward today and it was quite relaxed in the bunch until the final. In the sprint Covi and Richeze set me up well, I was on the wheel of Walls but he had a big kick and I couldn’t come around. It’s a pity I missed the podium but I’m happy with the condition after coming back from crashes and hungry for a win in the last three races which suit me well.”
The team will now turn their attention towards Il Lombardia (239km) , the final monument race of the season between Como and Bergamo.
