Ulissi continues strong run at Tour de Pologne

Italian 5th in reduced group

Diego Ulissi survived a frantic run-in on stage 5 of the Tour de Pologne, taking 5th place and keeping his 3rd place spot in the overall classification.

The riders set off from Tarnow to Bukovina Resort (159.9km) with a hilly profile which included a circuit finish on a slightly uphill drag.

There were a number of crashes in the closing kilometres which Ulissi managed to avoid to fight it out for the win, just getting slightly boxed in on the final straight, with Nikias Arndt (DSM) taking the victory.

Joao Almeida (Deceuninck-Quickstep) continues to lead the race as Ulissi sits just behind at 14’’ in 3rd, with no more than 47’’ between the top-10 riders heading into the final two stages.

Tomorrow stage 6 will be an individual time trial starting and finishing in Katowice (19km) which should suit the likes of Mikkel Bjerg.
