Laengen finishes the final stage of the Tour of California in 22th place and confirms 6th overall.

The Tour of California has ended today in the USA: the final stage took riders from Mountain High to Pasadena covering 125 km and three categorized ascents.
UAE Team Emirates (photo Bettini) GC contender Vegard Stake Laengen crossed the finish line in the main selected bunch, 22 seconds behind the winner Evan Huffman (Rally Cycling), who emerged from the breakaway.

Vegard Stake Laengen obtained the final sixth place in the General Classification, at 1’54”  to the winner George Bennett(LottoNL-Jumbo).

Mario Scirea, sports director : “We came here aiming to achieve two goals, which were to try to win a stage and to gain experience for our young riders. I think we had a good week in California, the sixth overall is a proper prize for Laengen and for the whole team.

I’m pretty proud of our youngsters, which were pretty impressive considering that yesterday Filippo Ganna succeeded in achieving the top five of the time trial and Simone Consonni obtained the 3rd place in a sprint stage in Morro Bay.
All the riders of the team gave their contribution, Mirza too was good in supporting his team mates”.
