Matej Mohoric doubles down in Hong Kong

One year later, Matej Mohoric was rejoicing once again as he crossed the finish line in the Hong Kong Cyclothon. In this Asian race, which in the meantime has become a UCI 1.1 event, the Slovenian from UAE Team Emirates put in a winning performance that carried him over the finish line with 5″ on Hucker and 1’14” on Arashiro. Ben Swift took 11th place.

Here is what Mohoric (photo) had to say: “UAE Team Emirates was one of the two World Tour teams lined up at the starting line. We knew that in order to avoid taking on the burden of having to drive the race, we would have to make it into the breaks, and that’s what we did. After 35 km, Swift and I had gotten into an attack made up of about 20 or so riders and this turned out to be the crucial move in the race.
Our group started to break up as the kilometres wore on; then with about 3 km to go to the finish line, on the only slightly uphill stretch on the route, I launched the winning assault. I’m very happy for this success, especially because it repays the support I received from my team mates, the staff and Sports Directors.
After this race, I’ll be on the starting grid for the Tour of Guangxi, trying to make the most of the top form I’m in to close out the season on a winning streak”
