Polanc 10th & Aru 15th in Tour of Guangxi’s mountain stage

UAE Team Emirates's leaders kept the gaps small in the queen stage

In the Tour of Guangxi’s queen stage, Jan Polanc came in 10th among the top stars and moved to 11th overall. Fabio Aru placed 15th in the stage won by Gianni Moscon (Sky).

The fourth stage from Nanning, 152.2km, took the riders to the Nongla climb. The climbers and rouleurs put the pressure on in one of the stages that offered them an opportunity. Even if Moscon rode free, the remainder of the group with Polanc and Aru held at 18 seconds back.

With the directors directors, in the pre-race meeting, we gave a lot of weight to starting the climb at the front in good position given that the climb was not long at three kilometres,Polanc (photo Bettini) said “The team did its work as best as possible, and both me and Fabio were able to stay at the front of the main group. I felt that I had good legs and this led to a small mistake, riding too strongly at the start of the climb. I wasn’t as alert when Moscon later counter-attacked. In the last section of the climb, I gave the most I could to remain in contact with the top riders. I’m happy with finishing top 10“.

The fifth stage, Lizhou to Guilin at 212km, lacks any serious climbs to shake up the overall.
