Hometown: Verbania (Italy)
Date of birth: 25/07/1996
Road, track, cobbles: Ganna has the potential and skills to dominate in various cycling disciplines in the future.
|Debut on bike||2009|
His physical traits (193 cm, 82kg) would allow him to excel as an athlete in many sports, where he could also have served as a secret weapon because he is a lefty; but Filippo chose cycling after a few futile attempts trying his hand at volleyball and basketball.
His racing debut at the age of 9 was not as brilliant as his present status. His helmet was loose, his shoes were too big, he had trouble locking on to the pedals and he had a hard time. After such a difficult start Filippo could have called it quits, but he decided to keep at it and slowly but surely he found a groove that has brought him plenty of satisfaction.
He shares the surname Ganna with the rider who won the first Giro d'Italia, but Filippo is not a descendant of the illustrious cycling pioneer.
He participated in the 2012 Rio Olympics, 32 years after his father Marco competed in the 1984 Los Angeles Games on the crew team.
