Tour of Poland: Consonni 5th in Katowice sprint
The young Italian sprinter of UAE Team Emirates is again a protagonist.
As predicted, the second stage of the Tour of Poland finished in a bunch sprint.
Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe) doubled up with a win after stage one yesterday. In Katowice, he beat Alvaro Jos Hodeg (Quick Step – Floors) and in third, Giacomo Nizzolo (TREK), Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton Scott) fourth and fifth for Simone Consonni (UAE Team Emirates).
Consonni: “It was a chaotic final, but thanks to Bystrom and Costa for guiding me through. At one kilometre out, I tried to profit from a gap left open by Quick-Step for Markov, and I used some energy to do so. Maybe at the point I should have just keep going straight and gave it all I had. I’ll try agian tomorrow.”
The third stage will be another chance for sprinters. It travels 139km from Stadion Śląski Chorzów to Zabrze with three intermediate sprints and a fourth category climb. It ends with four circuits of six kilometres each.
