UAE Team Emirates heads north for opening weekend

The team's line-ups for the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne

The Emirati WorldTour team takes part in the first big one-day races this coming weekend, March 2 and 3, in Belgium: the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (World Tour) and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne (1.HC).

Allan Peiper (Aus) and Simone Pedrazzini (Swi) will guide the seven-man team over the two days:

– Tom Bohli (Swi)
– Sven Erik Bystrøm (Nor)
– Roberto Ferrari (Ita)
– Marco Marcato (Ita)
– Sebastian Molano (Col)
– Jasper Philipsen (Bel)
– Rory Sutherland (Aus)

Belgian Jasper Philipsen, winner of the Tour Down Under’s fifth stage, said, “I can’t wait to get to this weekend to open the season of Belgian races. I always liked this period since I fought in the youth ranks, so it’s easy to imagine the enthusiasm I have now wearing a WorldTour jersey.

It’s hard to think of a personal goal, above all in these types of races, but I can assure you I’ll be working hard and open to learning everything that these races offer. Every section of the race will help me gain experience that will be useful for me in the future when I fight for the big goals.”

The Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, March 2, starts in Harelbeke and ends in Ninove after 200km. Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne the following day runs 201.1 km around the town of Kuurne.
