Ulissi 5th on tough day at Tour of Poland

Italian also sits 5th overall heading into final day

Diego Ulissi continued his good showing of form with 5th place on stage 4 of the Tour of Poland.
The day was won with an emphatic attack by Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-Quickstep) with 50km to go. Ulissi led home the heavily reduced main bunch at 3’05 behind.

For his consistency Ulissi now holds the points jersey and currently lies in 5th place overall heading into the final stage from Zakopane to Kraków (188k).

Ulissi: “I gave it my best. It was a very tough stage, four riders arrived in front who, when the road goes upward, are among the best in the world. I did what I could and the sensations were also good, but they just had better legs in front. I’m still coming away happy “.

Meanwhile in Milan-San Remo Tadej Pogačar and Davide Formolo showed they are in good shape heading into the Criterium du Dauphiné with 12th and 16th place respectively.

Wout Van Aert (Jumbo Visma) took the win in an addition of the race which saw most of the main sprinters detached from the peloton including Alexander Kristoff and Fernando Gaviria.

Pogačar: “It was a long and hot day, but it was a good experience. I had good condition, which allowed me to follow an attack on the Cipressa, but I missed the move.
I then tried to put myself at the service of the team, unfortunately Gaviria suffered and Kristoff also did not stay in the front. On the Poggio Formolo and I organized ourselves to work together and we narrowly missed the right attack. Then in the sprint I didn’t have the legs.
It was my first Milan-Sanremo, I liked it: I can’t say if one day I will be able to win it, it’s such a special race, each edition is a story in itself, but I know for sure that I’ll come back to try and get the most out of it. “
