Ulissi 6th at Giro Dell’Emilia

"Good performance" says UAE Team Emirates rider

Diego Ulissi never fails to perform when given the role as leader and it was no different at the Giro dell’Emilia 2019, which was won by Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma).

The rider from UAE Team Emirates crossed the line in 6th place, after timing his efforts well over the five laps of the San Luca climb in Bologna.

Ulissi faced the last ascent with a select group of the big name riders, from which Roglic escaped with a daring move just over a kilometere from the finish line.
Behind him, the EF duo composed of Michael Woods (2nd) and Sergio Higuita (3rd), followed by Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo), Valverde (Movistar) and then Ulissi, 6th.

Ulissi after the finish line: “It was a race with a hard course and with many of the best climbers in the world on the startline. I was up the front all day and got close to the top five so I can be happy with that .
After the excellent work done by Mori and Marcato to allow me to enter the head of the group on the San Luca circuit, I had to rely on my strength, trying to follow the other top guys.
On the last climb I tried to play the waiting game, since I saw that some riders were stronger.
I’m quite happy with my performance overall”.

UAE Team Emirates will be at the start tomorrow (Sunday 6 October) of the GP Beghelli, while Ulissi will return to racing on Tuesday 8 October at the Tre Valli Varesine.
