Ulissi takes overall Tour de Luxembourg

Covi second in the Giro dell'Appennino

With second place in the finish of the 5th and final stage, Diego Ulissi has put the final seal on the success in the general classification of the Tour de Luxembourg.

In the final stage (Mersch-Luxembourg, 177 km), the UAE Team Emirates leader was bettered in the sprint by Andreas Kron (Riwal Securitas).

The second spot was enough for Ulissi to win the race, with a margin of 25″ over Markus Hoelgaard (Uno-X Pro) and 27″ over Aimé De Gendt (Circus-Wanty Gobert).

The Italian rider also won the points ranking.

The seasonal victory haul for UAE Team Emirates now rises to 27 wins.

Ulissi: “I am very happy to have won the overall standings: three wins in five days, I couldn’t have asked for better for me and for UAE Team Emirates. Today’s stage was exciting, the course was challenging, with an important split in the final.  The team worked well today at the head of the group. Too bad we didn’t win the stage, but that’s okay, with the overall win in the bag.

Now I’ll head to the World Championships full of confidence”.
