Filippo Baroncini returns home from hospital and extends contract with UAE Team Emirates-XRG

Italian extends with the Emirati squad until 2027

UAE Team Emirates-XRG is pleased to share positive news on Filippo Baroncini, who has successfully returned home from hospital today following his crash in the Tour de Pologne in August. The 25-year-old Italian rider is recovering well and, in further uplifting news, has signed a new two-year contract with the team.

Baroncini, the former U23 World Champion, joined UAE Team Emirates-XRG in 2023 and has developed each year within the squad. His new agreement will see him remain with the team for a further two seasons.

This announcement marks not only a significant step in his recovery journey, but also a vote of confidence in his potential and commitment to the team’s future.

Filippo Baroncini: “I’m really happy to be heading home and feeling stronger each day. The last month has been an extremely difficult period but the support from the team, fans, and my family has been incredible and it gives me great motivation.

“Extending my contract for two more years is very special for me and I thank the management for their confidence in me — I’m looking forward to repaying the team’s trust with hard work and hope for more successes in this family.”

Mauro Gianetti, CEO & Team Principal of UAE Team Emirates-XRG, added:

“We are thrilled to welcome Filippo back home and to confirm his contract extension. He has shown great resilience during this period and we are confident he will continue to grow as an important part of our team. He has a long road to recovery but we will be there to support him on his journey back to competition.”
