Ganna and Consonni at the track world champiosnhip

UAE Team Emirates will be represented by two members of the roster at the track world championship 2017, which are scheduled from 12 to 16 April in Hong Kong.

Filippo Ganna and Simone Consonni will participate in the world event in the Italian national selection: young (20 years olf Ganna, 22 years old Consonni) and already very competitive, the duo from UAE Team Emirates will have a good exposure in Hong Kong.

Ganna (photo Bettini) is the defending champion in the individual pursuit, his amazing victory in London 2016 is a highlights in his young career.
The individual pursuit will be the main appointment for Ganna in Hong Kong, in addition he’ll check with the directors of the national team which could be his contribution in the team pursuit.

«I’m aware of the honor and the responsibility of being the current world champion. This year everything will be different, everyone will be looking at me as the main contender.
Now I’m a pro rider, it’s a different situation comparing to the past year – Ganna explained –
My approach to the event has been good, my form is ok and I’ll be in Hong Kong with a happy mood, I’m not under pressure, because I’m aware that I did my best to prepare this appointment, so I will celebrate good results and I won’t have regrets in case of missing targets».

Simone Consonni will be the team leader in the omnium and the national team’s directors will decide his eventual participation in the madison and in the team pursuit: «The level of the Italian sector on track has increased in te recent past years and the golden medals of Ganna in 2016 World Championship and of Viviani in the Olympic Games raised the level of the expectations: this is an incentive to try to realize high level performances.
I’ll pick up the baton from Viviani in the Omnium, which will be the main discipline in my program: I’d like to exploit all the advices I received from Elia.
For what concerns the other disciplines, the technical staff will decide when and if I’ll race them».

THURSDAY 13 APRIL
– 7 pm: team pursuit – final (Consonni, Ganna)

FRIDAY 14 APRIL
– 1,30 pm: individual pursuit – qualifying (Ganna)
– 7 pm: finals (Ganna)

SATURDAY 15 APRIL
– 12,30: omnium: scratch, tempo race (Consonni)
– 7 pm: omnium: elimination, points race (Consonni)

SUNDAY 16 APRIL
– 2 pm: madison (Consonni – to be confirmed)
