Gp Fourmies: Consonni 5th in the final challenge among sprinters

Fourth top 5 in the season for the Italian rider

A group sprint closed out the GP Fourmies (205 km) and for UAE Team Emirates Consonni garnered another top 5 placement, after the 2nd place scored by Kump on Saturday in the Bruxelles Classic.

The Italian neo-pro classified in 5th place in this French race, which Bouhanni won ahead of Sarreau and Selig. UAE Team Emirates raced with just 7 riders, since Laengen was forced out due to injuries he sustained in a fall during the Bruxelles Classic.

Consonni (photo Bettini archive, with Troia and Ganna), who finished in the top 5 for the fourth time in 2017, gave this analysis of the race: “Today the race became hard for us when we didn’t make it into the break, which was made up of many riders who drove the race. We had to work to contribute to the chase, catching up to the attackers with 10 km to go to the arrival.  My team mates were generous; I gave it all I had in the sprint to try to make the most out of their hard work; with 500 metres to go I got into a good position which allowed me to express myself in a nice sprint, which still wasn’t enough however to make it to the podium, as I would have liked.”
