McNulty claws back time in Dauphiné time-trial
American narrowly misses podium in 16.4km test
Brandon McNulty put in a solid ride to finish 8th on the Stage 4 individual time-trial of the Criterium du Dauphiné.
McNulty set-off quickly: setting the best provisional time at the intermediate split though lost precious seconds in the latter half of the 16.4km course from Firminy to Roche-La-Molière.
The stage win went to Alexey Lutsenko (Astana) with McNulty 21’’ behind, with the UAE rider clocking an average speed of 44.8kmph on the technical course. Mikkel Bjerg was 35’’ off the winning time in 15th place.
Allan Peiper (Sports Directors) : “Brandon McNulty executed well for 8th place albeit with a few technical mistakes. His form is growing in the right direction with 12th and 3rd in the last two stages and 8th on this demanding time trial course. Mikkel Bjerg was 15th on a course more suited to climbers so it’s also a very respectable ride.”
Tomorrow Stage 5 goes from Saint-Chamond to Saint-Vallier (175.4km) on an undulating parlours which could favour a select group finish.
