The line-up for the Gran Premio Città di Lugano
UAE Team Emirates will race on the Swiss roads
During the 100th Giro d’italia, another event for the UAE Team Emirates: on Sunday 7th May, the team of the president Matar will take part in the Gran Premio Città di Lugano (Switzerland).
The Gp di Lugano it’s a very hilly circuit race with average gradient of 4,4% (max 20.3%). The circuit both starts and finishes in Lugano and has a total length of 23.2km. Riders will do 8 laps of the circuit, for a total distance of 184.9km.
Bruno Vicino, sports director: “The Gp di Lugano will be an interesting race, because the hilly circuit will offer different solutions for trying to win the race. The team will pay attention in joining the eventual interesting breakaways, also with the two young Italian athletes Troia and Zurlo trying to support in the best way Laengen, who will be able to be in the head of the race in the final part of the race.”
Vegard Stake Laengen: “I spent a 17days) of training in altitude(2000m) on Isola 2000(France). So I have a good block of training as preparation for the race. My last race was Tour of Flanders where I crashed out. Therefore I’m not 100% sure about how the legs will be when returning to racing. But I have been feeling good the last days and want to make a great race. I’m ready to do some attacks and hopefully it can hold on until the finish line.”
The Gp di Lugano will be Yousif Mirza‘s second race in Europe, he said: “my goal in this race is to help my teammates to take a win. After my debut in Frankfurt race, I feel that the European races is very different form the Middle East, especially here is very cold for me, but i will try to adapting my self to racing in Europe conditions.”
