UAE Team Emirates put in aggressive display in Mallorca for double top-10

McNulty 7th & Soler 9th as Arrieta suffers late crash

UAE Team Emirates continued to build on their results at the Challenge Mallorca with presence in all the key moves at the Trofeo Pollença – Port d’Andratx taking two spots in the final top-10.

After catching the morning breakaway, Igor Arrieta led the race from 40km to go before Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto-Dstny) reeled him in 13km from the line in Andratx on the Coll de sa Gramola and dropped him. Arrieta put in a daring descent to find himself in front alone with Van Eetvelt inside the final 10km.

Disaster would strike for Arrieta as he slid out on a bend with -6km, quickly remounting but ruling himself out of contention as the chasing group containing Soler and McNulty swept by.

Inside the final kilometre it seemed like Marc Soler had timed his late attack to perfection though the reduced group of 10 riders behind would overall him on the final bend with Pelayo Sanchez (Movistar) proving the quickest in the dash for the line.

Brandon McNulty would finish in the group taking 7th place while Soler drifted to 9th.

The Challenge Mallorca concludes tomorrow with the Trofeo Palma (150km).
