UAE Team Emirates goes top 10 in Tirreno-Adriatico’s opening time trial

The Tirreno-Adriatico saw a race within a race along the coast in Lido di Camaiore. The team time trial, stage one of the race, saw the usual specialist teams fighting for the win, and another race among the teams with classification men like Fabio Aru.

“It was important not to lose too much time on our principle rivals for the overall classification, and from this point of view, we are satisfied,” said UAE Team Emirates’s sports director, Mario Scirea. “We were all on the same page, above all in the second part of the stage.”

“I’m happy with the result,” Aru explained. “Starting on the right foot is always important and it helps your morale. You can start to see some of the work that we’ve done over the winter.”

The 21.5-kilometre stage went to BMC Racing, beating by four seconds Mitchelton-Scott and nine seconds Team Sky. UAE Team Emirates closed in ninth place at 45 seconds back.
