Ulissi and Conti try for a repeat at the Giro dell’Emilia and in the Gp Beghelli
Italian races scheduled on September 30th and October 1st
The busy end of season Italian calendar will offer UAE Team Emirates a double date, with the Gp dell’Emilia (September 30th) and the Gp Beghelli (October 1st); both events are 1.HC. races.
The Emirati formation will be led in both races by Sports Director Orlando Maini, who has selected the following athletes:
Giro dell’Emilia (Casalecchio di Reno-Bologna, 223.3 km)
Darwin Atapuma (Colombia)
Valerio Conti (Italy)
Manuele Mori (Italy)
Przemyslaw Niemiec (Poland)
Simone Petilli (Italy)
Edward Ravasi (Italy)
Francesco Romano – trainee (Italy)
Diego Ulissi (Italy)
Gp Beghelli (Monteveglio-Monteveglio, 196,3 km)
Matteo Bono (Italy)
Valerio Conti (Italy)
Simone Consonni (Italy)
Andrea Guardini (Italy)
Manuele Mori (Italy)
Przemyslaw Niemiec (Poland)
Francesco Romano – trainee (Italy)
Federico Zurlo (Italy)
Orlando Maini, Sports Director: “In the Giro dell’Emilia, the San Luca circuit will be decisive, as always: Ulissi, Atapuma and Conti should arrive in this last phase of the race with the maximum energy, and to do this we will have to be ready to get into eventual breaks in the first part of the race.
As for the Gp Beghelli, fast, resistant riders like Consonni and Zurlo could be major contenders in the final. For eventual attacks close to the finish line, Conti will have to stay out front if he wants to try and repeat his 2014 win.”
Diego Ulissi on the Giro dell’Emilia: “I would like to be a major player in the race, which has reached its 100th edition. I already won on San Luca in 2013; the final circuit is as exciting as it is challenging. I’ll have to be in top shape to do well.”
About the Gp Beghelli, Valerio Conti (photo Bettini) explained: “I think the Gp Beghelli is one of the most spectacular races on the Italian calendar. I’ve been training well lately to be ready for a demanding race, one which gave me my first professional success in 2014. The sprinters will have a lot of chances, but should the race become selective, I will try to stay in the thick of things.”
