Deutschland Tour: Ulissi 9th in Eisenach, Kristoff still leading the points classification

The Norwegian from UAE Team Emirates fights hard but hands over general classification lead

It was an intense final 20km on the 3rd stage of the Deutschland Tour from Gottingen to Eisenach (189 km) with the climb of Vachaer tear-Stein (1.4 km to 5%).
Despite the efforts of the race leader Alexander Kristoff, who fought to stay as long as possible on the wheels of the climbers and rouleurs, the sprinter finally surrendered as they approached the line.

Over the crest of the climb a group formed of 18 riders, including Diego Ulissi for UAE Team Emirates.
This group remained together until 3 km to go, when Jasper Stuyven (Trek-Segafred) counterattacked, before being reeled in by Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck-Quick Step), who won the sprint.
The chasers came to the line 17 seconds behind with Ulissi taking 9th place.

The leadership of the general classification now passes from Kristoff to Jasper Styuven, while Ulissi has jumped to 6th overall, 20 “from the leader.
Alexander Kristoff maintains the lead in the points competition.

Diego Ulissi: “For me I needed a tougher finish to really suit me. The finish was hard but not enough to get rid of fast guys like Asgreen and Stuyven.
I tried to do my best and I even managed to pick two bonus seconds which is always useful “.

On Sunday, the Deutschland Tour will see a start and finish in Eisenach Efrurton a circuit of 159.5 kilometers where the riders will face 3 categorised climbs, all concentrated in the first part of the race (74 km from the finish line).
