Adriatica-Ionica: Ravasi jumps to second overall

The UAE Team Emirates’s young climber closed fourth on the Adriatica-Ionica’s queen stage today, finishing on the Passo Giau. The ride let him move to second overall behind new race leader Ivan Sosa (Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec).

The team took control of the 158.3-kilometre stage and set up Ravasi to attack. Togheter with six other riders, he moved free at 10 kilometres to race.

“Today, we began with determination to take on the race and aim for the overall,” said Ravasi. “We control up until the first big attacks and readied for the big final fight.

Personally, I managed my energy well over the first two climbs to give my best in the end when we went with 10 kilometres to race. Now I’m second in the classification, but the race is not yet over. Sosa did a great ride today and he went so strongly.”

Colombia’s Sosa won the stage and jumped into the lead by 18 seconds over Ravasi.

Tomorrow, they face the fourth stage, heading from the mountains back down to the sea over 226.1 kilometres. The stage starts in San Vito di Cadore and ends in Grado. In the final, the riders will have to cover two gravel sectors.
