Ulissi takes podium in Coppi e Bartali

2nd for Italian in final stage showdown

Diego Ulissi came agonisingly close to his first victory of the season with 2nd place on the fourth and final stage of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali (2.1).

The day was won by Pascal Eenkhoorn (Jumbo Visma) in a sprint on the final stage in Forlì (166km). Edward Ravasi animated the race with an escape in a group of 5 riders who were caught within 3km fro the line. For his consistency, Ulissi finished one step off the podium in 4th position.

Diego Ulissi: “In general the week has been very good, despite not being in top shape. Part of my way of racing is being up fighting for the results and that was the case this week. The team worked well, with the young riders showing their capabilities. It’s a pity to finish second when you are so close to the win but I’m happy with my consistency and maybe this is my best season yet – all I’m missing is the win.”

Paolo Tiralongo (Assistant Sports Director): “It’s bittersweet because we put in some good performances but we came away without a victory. Our young guys put in brave efforts – Covi is a rider who is growing and Ulissi showed his consistently high level. There are many positives to take away from the week.”
