Philipsen comes close at BinckBank Tour
2nd on stage 3 for Belgian sprinter
Jasper Philipsen fell just short of claiming his second win of the week on stage 3 of the BinckBank Tour (WT) in Belgium.
The race, which was held in rainy conditions for much of the day, was decided in a hectic sprint over narrow twisty roads with Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) proving the fastest, finishing a bike length ahead of Philipsen who moves to second overall in the general classification.
Philipsen : “We rode well today. It was important to be at the front because of the bad weather and we managed to do that. In the end the guys put me in a good position to sprint for the win. I opened up on the left hand side and almost thought I had it but Pedersen came with speed at the last moment. I would have liked to have kept the leaders jersey but I’m happy with the result and glad we all finished safely in the wet conditions.”
Tomorrow stage 4 will be an 8.1km individual time-trial in Riemst-Kanne.
