Ulissi achieves podium target in Poland

The Italian rider from UAE Team Emirates 3rd in final general classification

For the first time in his career Diego Ulissi has stepped on the podium at the Tour of Poland, continuing his excellent streak of good results which started with his win in the GP Lugano and continued with the triumph at the Tour of Slovenia (overall and stage victory ), 4th place in the national championships and victory in the Tokyo 2020 Test Event.

 

The Italian cyclist from UAE Team Emirates has finished the Polish World Tour event in 3rd place in the general ranking, 12″ from the winner Pavel Sivakov (Team Ineos) and 10″ from the runner-up, Jai Hindley (Sunweb).

 

At the start of the final stage (Bukowina Resort-Bukowina Tatrzanska, 153.3 km with several short climbs), Ulissi started in 4th position at 17 “from the leader Jonas Vingeegard (Jumbo-Visma). In a brave ride, the captain of UAE Team Emirates arrived in the top riders group as the race leader became detached. As a result, Ulissi was able to jump onto the final podium.

 

The day was won by Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Merida),who formed a break of 14 riders in which Simone Petilli was also present. Mohoric counterattacked solo before going on to seize the win; 10th place went to Ulissi at 2’15 “.
