Silver for De La Cruz in Spanish TT Championships
Catalan rider less than one second off title in Busot
David De La Cruz came agonisingly close to winning the Spanish time-trial championships in Busot, Alicante.
The Spaniard completed the 32.1km course in a time of 40’20’’,just one second shy of the winner Ion Izagirre (Astana-Premier Tech) and was forced to settle for the 2nd spot on the podium.
De La Cruz: “After Tour de Suisse I came straight here to prepare and acclimatise to the heat and conditions in Alicante. I knew the course well and worked with my coach so that everything went right on the day. It’s always tough to lose by such a close margin but I have to accept it, Izagirre did a great ride. I take away that the condition is good for my next targets.”
