Top-5 for Philipsen in fast Vuelta finish

Team delivers Belgian to second top-5 of La Vuelta

Jasper Philipsen came home in 4th place on stage 9 of the Vuelta España from Castrillo del Val to Aguilar de Campo (157.7km).

In an arrival marked by wind and a circuit finish, Philipsen had to settle for 4th place on a day won by German Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe) after the disqualification of Sam Bennett (Deceuninck-Quickstep).

David De La Cruz remains the top man for UAE Team Emirates on GC in 13th at 4’44’’.

Neil Stephens (Sports Director) : “We knew it was going to be a sprint today so we participated in the chase along with Deceuninck Quickstep to bring back the break. We spent just that little bit too much energy getting into position in the final which meant our lead-out guys Rui and Ivo Oliveira had to go that little bit too early and Jasper ended up a little boxed in for the sprint unfortunately. Tomorrow will be a 50/50 day whether it’s a sprint or a break arrives so we’ll aim to be in the action again.”

Tomorrow will see the riders go from Castro Urdiales to Suances (185km) over a lumpy course.
