Four medals for UAE Team Emirates in National TT Championships

Bjerg, Polanc, Pogačar and Ardila all claim podiums

It was a day of strong results for the Emirati squad with a string of podium placings but the victory just out of reach.

 

In SloveniaJan Polanc completed the 31.5km course in a time of 37‘ 16‘’ , earning him a silver medal behind the winner Jan Tratnik (Bahrain-Victorious).Recent Tour of Slovenia winner, Pogačar, rounded out the podium for UAE Team Emirates by placing 3rd, 34″ off Tratnik. The 2020 Tour de France champion will now stay in Slovenia to compete in the Road Race on Sunday before travelling to Brest to prepare for the Grand Depart.

 

Meanwhile, Mikkel Bjerg claimed the silver medal for the second consecutive year in the Danish National Championships in the city of Give.

 

The former under-23 TT Champion clocked an average speed of 49.5kmph on the 47.8km course, with only Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck-Quickstep) going quicker.

 

Bjerg: “I’m happy with my ride. At the mid-way checkpoint I was just 10 seconds back, then I blew a bit in the last part and lost a few more seconds. I’m excited for the road race : it’s more a course for the sprinters but I’ll give it a go.”

 

Camilo Ardila showed his ability against the clock in the Colombian Championships with the climber taking a bronze medal in the course around the city of Pereira.

 

The title went to Walter Vargas (Medillin-EPM) with Ardila 2’14” behind.
