Alessandro Covi bags top-5 in Clasica San Sebastian

Italian wins group sprint behind breakaway

Alessandro Covi took his biggest result in a one-day World Tour classic with 5th place at the Clasica San Sebastian in Spain today.

The 22-year old led home a chasing group of ten riders who pursued the four leaders, 1’04’’ behind the group containing eventual winner Neilson Powless (EF-Nippo).

The podium was rounded out by Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Victorious) and Mikkel Honoré (Deceuninck-QuickStep) in a three-way sprint.

Covi: “I am very satisfied with fifth place, and especially with my performance, in this period I feel very good physically and I wanted to take advantage of this condition.

There was a selection made on the final climb but it was very difficult to organise a chase to the group of 4 on the wet roads. I won the sprint from the chasing group and I am very satisfied with this result.”

The team will be in action again tomorrow in the Basque Country for the Circuito de Getxo (1.1).
